Analyst Biography
Bennett Cheer is an emerging consumer sector associate at Hedgeye Risk Management, specializing in the Restaurants and Cannabis sectors. Since joining in early 2024, Cheer has been instrumental in transforming the restaurant vertical at Hedgeye, bringing enhanced analytical rigor to the Fast Casual segment and broader restaurant coverage.
Cheer holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Economics from St. Lawrence University, where his analytical expertise is complemented by a strong foundation in mathematical theory. Outside the research sphere, Bennett spearheaded the varsity football team’s defense at SLU and earned membership in multiple honors societies.
Cheer began his equity research career analyzing the industrials space at Champlain Investment Partners during his collegiate years. At Hedgeye, he has trained extensively under Howard Penney, one of Wall Street’s most respected restaurant analysts with over 30 years of experience spanning restaurants, consumer staples, tobacco, and cannabis sectors. Penney’s fundamental approach continues to shape the restaurant research methodology, now enhanced with quantitative analysis. Cheer combines data-driven modeling with deep sector knowledge to identify investment opportunities, long and short, across the evolving restaurant and consumer landscape.
Daniel Biolsi is the Sector Head of Consumer Staples at Hedgeye Risk Management, where he leads the firm’s global Consumer Staples research. He is a veteran consumer analyst with more than two decades of experience covering a broad range of consumer-oriented industries, including retail, food and beverage, consumer products, apparel, restaurants, and airlines.
Daniel Biolsi began his career on the #1 ranked Institutional Investor Health Care Distribution and Technology teams, where he developed a rigorous analytical foundation that helped shape his long-term investment approach. He later applied this expertise across multiple hedge funds, contributing consumer-focused insights and demonstrating adaptability across market cycles.
Prior to joining Hedgeye, Daniel spent a decade at Glenhill Capital, where he invested across a wide range of consumer companies and further deepened his understanding of business fundamentals, capital allocation, and competitive dynamics.
Daniel is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and brings deep financial statement analysis expertise to his research. His diverse experience across sectors and investment styles underpins a comprehensive, disciplined approach to analyzing global consumer markets.
